Pros:

  • Features a self-sharpening technology
  • Damascus black non-stick coating
  • 15 different essential kitchen knives
  • Heavy-duty blades made out of stainless steel

Cons:

  • Very expensive option
  • Not dishwasher friendly

I like the Calphalon Precision Knife Block Set because of the combination of great quality, great features and the sharpening technology baked right into the knife.

The knife set comes with everything you need to be in the kitchen. It comes with 8 steak knives, 3.5 paring knives, 8 utility knives, an 8-inch santoku, and 8 chef knives. I like that the steak knives are forged. The santoku knives are stamped out of sheet metal for economy of scale.

I also like the sharpening technology built into the knife block. Instead of using a steel to hone your knife, you just use the ceramic sharpeners built into the block to do it for you. That way you can sharpen your knife as often as you like without wearing out any parts.

The knives are made out of quality materials. It's made from high carbon German steel. It's also fully forged, which means that the blade is welded in a forge. While it may add a little to the overall weight of the knife, it is a durable and long lasting material.

The hand-shaped handles provide comfort and reliability and the label makes it easy to find the right knife on the cutting board.

One drawback to this knife set is that it only comes with one slot in the knife block. Larger knives or highly sharpened knives might not fit in the slot comfortably and would be better off in their own knife block.
