Furniture Sliders: The Best Way to Move Heavy Furniture Without Scratching the Floor

Furniture sliders to the rescue! I love them! If you don't have them, go out and get some now. Trust me, you're going to want them.

These little devices are a life saver in busy households with kids and pets. They are so simple to set up and use, they will last for many years and cost a tiny fraction compared to its weight in gold.

I found it best to use the furniture sliders on my hardwood floors. I can't stand it when scratches appear on the floors, so in order to prevent scratches, I put down a protective sheet of fabric (old pieces of bed sheets and towels are great for this) between my furniture and the floor.

Now, if I need to move any piece of furniture (on wheels!) between rooms, all I need is a handful of furniture sliders and the moving process is much faster, easier and hassle free. It can help me save a considerable amount of time on housework and I am one happy camper!

I will usually place a flat piece of furniture or heavy appliance on top of the sliders (a box works well).

I also find that I have less back pain after using the furniture sliders. It is basically because when you are moving things around in your own home, furniture you are moving is probably packed with quite alot of your own stuff.

Get Help from Friends and Family Members

If you're looking to move furniture, especially heavy furniture, then getting help from friends and family members can help make your job a lot easier.

The more people you have helping you, the less stressful the process will be.

Typically, furniture movers will charge hourly fees for moving services. This means that you end up paying a lot of money to get your furniture moved.

So why not send out an email to your friends and family members and ask for help in moving furniture?

Even if you can't get any offers of help, you can ask them to help you move furniture if they see you out and about. Having friends and family members help you move your furniture will be much more convenient than paying a moving company to do it for you.

And also, you get to build and strengthen relationships. It's an added bonus!

Disassemble The Furniture Items

If you cant move some heavy items, like sofa set, moving dolly can be a good idea.

If you're stuck with a smaller item, you can use some furniture dollies or straps can help you move small furniture.

Making sure that your furniture legs are protected so that you don't scratch the floor.

While moving furniture, it is highly recommended to get help from others.

Lifting Straps or Moving Straps to Ease the Moving Process

So you bought that beautiful brand new furniture piece you have been wanting and that is perfect for your apartment. But there is a major issue when it comes to lifting the furniture to move it. Furniture is very heavy and it will be even heavier after you wrap your arms around it. So what you need is something that will make moving it a lot easier.

Introducing a lifting strap which is also called furniture dolly is the ultimate solution. It is a piece of nylon cloth that comes on a strap. To use it, wrap the strap around the furniture arm or leg and pull in the opposite direction. It will help you move the furniture piece without the excess back pain you will have from the typical lifting method. These are also cheap and can be found in any home improvement store. The strap will also help you move extra furniture that doesn’t fit through the door.

Another option is to use a furniture moving strap. This is basically a version of a moving dolly that you can hook up to your couch. Just slide it under the couch/bed/dresser you are trying to move and use the strap to pull it across the floor .

Moving Dollies Can Ease the Move

Moving heavy furniture across a smooth hard surface area in one piece, especially those with hard edges and corners, is a total no-go. I use moving dollies for this task. I grab the dollies and the furniture piece, wheel it across the floor. Depending on the furniture piece’s size, I either have the dolly move on its own or I push it like a wheelbarrow.

The dollies eliminate the need for you to bend too much during the move. However, if the furniture piece has sharp corners, I could use moving blankets as a preventive measure against scratching the floor. After grabbing the furniture piece and moving it across the floor, I wheel the dolly and then release the furniture piece.

Wrap Your Furniture with Moving Blankets

Without a doubt, the best way to move and protect your furniture is to use a moving blanket.

Not only will the move be more organized, but also you won’t have to worry about scratching the floor once you’re done.

Just be sure to tuck in a ”lip” of the blanket under or over one of the feet so it stays in place as you move it.

It’s important to realize that moving blankets have moving limitations.

If the furniture is too big, or it has very delicate legs, a blanket can’t really help you.

Also, if the furniture has very intricate and touchy pieces, it’s a good idea to consult your moving company to see what the best approach is.

Moving blankets come in different packaging and sizes, so be sure to choose the best option for your move.

Reduce the Weight of the Furniture

If you are moving heavy items from one location to another, you can reduce the weight of the object by taking parts away. For example, if you want to move a bed, you can take the bed frame off, that way, your furniture moving will be a bit easier.

If you do not know a good professional furniture removalist, you can hire a truck, pack your stuff and take them for a lift. However, do check with the store for the weight limit of your truck.

Final Words:

Most of us don’t realize how dangerous it is to move heavy furniture around. Moving large objects from one place to other is a simple task but if you do it improperly, the results can be catastrophic. Heavy furniture can result in injuries of people and damage to property as well.

To prevent any damage to property or injuries to their precious possessions, people use many techniques and shortcuts to move heavy furniture. Some people use furniture dolly while other people use furniture blankets to move heavy furniture. Both methods work just fine.

To move furniture dolly, place the dolly under a piece of furniture. Place the dolly wheels on the furniture legs. Unlock the dolly wheels and roll the dolly backwards towards the desired location. The wheels on the dolly will raise and relocate the furniture.

You can save a lot of moving cost by moving the furniture yourself and learning how to do it the right way.
