There's a lot to like about this LumaRail Bed Assist Rail, including the fact that it works with low beds as low as 12 inches. That's the lowest that I've seen any model work on any bed. The rail functions in three major ways to boost the safety of bed users, including a night light, a built-in distance sensor that turns on the lights when you move, and a built-in anchor strap that prevents the rail from falling away from the bed, which could drop an occupant into night.

Another unique feature of this bed rail is that it has an independently adjustable height. This is a feature you don't find very often in an assist rail but it is something that is essential if you have a thick mattress or mattress topper.

The LED light is bright and can be controlled independently of the bed's interior lights, which is designed to save energy. The sensor light can be set to turn on when it detects motion, or it can be set to stay on indefinitely. I like this feature because it can save energy by preventing unnecessary lighting.

The last two features are about safety with this leg of the bed. First, the adjustable rail can be fitted with an anchor strap that attaches to the bed frame with the purpose of preventing the rail from falling away from the bed and creating a dangerous gap.

Next is the LumaRail's rubberized handle, which features a retractable handle that is made of a soft-touch rubber. This is a clever design because it prevents the handle from falling and damaging a user's hands if it is hit during use.

The LumaRail does a great job of enhancing bed safety. This model is noteworthy for its independent height adjustment, which is important for thicker mattresses and mattress toppers. With the adjustable height, there's a total of up to 4 inches of height and it's built with an independent distance sensor to prevent light switches and nightlights from being activated when there is simply a warm body within arm's reach of the bed.
